Emotional Freedom Technique or often referred to as Tapping.
EFT/Tapping is a form of acupressure tapping on specific acupuncture points that helps to release painful and stuck emotions.

Specifically, EFT/Tapping utilises the Chinese Acupuncture meridian system within the body (which is where our vital life force flows). Each meridian has several acupressure points along its path and by focusing on a specific issue while tapping these points we are sending a signal to the Amygdala. The Amygdala is the area of the brain that is responsible for processing our emotions, our survival instincts and our memory.
Overthinking, trauma, negative thoughts & emotions, stressful situations can stimulate the Amygdala which can lead to a state of chronic stress.
The idea behind EFT/Tapping is to reprogram your response to these threats/stressful events, by focusing on the anger, sadness or any other emotion that is holding you back and the tapping sends a signal to the amygdala that you are safe.
You can’t find a solution for a problem if you are too focused on just the problem itself.
During EFT/Tapping you are bringing up feelings and emotions that you want to clear, and really focusing on problems you want to resolve. For example, when you are stressed, talking about it while you stimulate the acupressure points creates a calming sensation that helps prevent these stressful thoughts from triggering a negative response in the future, and makes way for more positive and empowering thoughts.

Harvard Medical school have revealed that by stimulating the body’s acupuncture meridian points, you can significantly reduce the activity in the Amygdala in the brain.
From a Chinese Medicine perspective, if you imagine your energy/Qi flowing through your acupuncture meridians around your body like a road system and the acupuncture points (similar to Chakras) used in EFT/Tapping are akin to roundabouts.
When pressure in the form of tapping is applied to these specific points, it has the effect of clearing the congestion (stuck emotions) and allowing the free flow of Qi and Blood.
Whilst this pressure is being applied, the aim is to focus on emotional issues that are affecting you negatively and causing your body to pump out cortisol. As we progress through several rounds of tapping you can drastically reduce or eliminate this stress response.
